Oiled Wildlife &
Deepwater Horizon Spill Information
Our Role In Oiled Wildlife Response
The Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators Association participated as a partner orgranization with the PPC Liason contractor for the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Our state permitted Wildlife Rehabilitator members actively participated in the daily operation and gave countless hours of assistance to the two contracted response groups.
Our Role Post-Deepwater Horizon
As the Hammond, LA Oiled Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility is now closed, our Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators are now forced to accept oiled animals at their local facilities.
What Do I Do With This Animal?
ANY oiled wildlife anywhere in the state can be taken to a state permitted Wildlife Rehabilitator. A list of those rehabilitators is available here. Please be sure to ask the rehabilitator if they have experience with wild animals as not all state permitted rehabilitators have oiled animal experience. If you are unable to locate a wildlife rehabilitator in your area on that list please use the Wildlife Help System to submit a ticket to us and we will locate a rehabilitator for you.
Thank you!
